What’s the point, that’s the nagging question. Coasting through life is easy and by all accounts the data shows that religion is no guarantee of a successful life on earth. So, what’s the fucking point? There’s no clear answer, apparently.
Again, the data suggests that belief in the Jewish God and Christ is no better than offering sacrifices to Zeus & Co or shopping for spiritual trinkets at some hippies beach town gift shop.
The Romans thrived with their shitty gods. The Jews suffered unfathomably with their one true God. Jesus claimed he was the Son of God and was hung on a cross, killed violently, along with his cronies in the following decades.
The math sucks, or does it?
I’m a Christian, a Pastor, surely I must have the answers, or you can seek council from Billy Bob Preacher or Friar Francisco Alfredo Blah Blah, one of three must know what’s what, right?
Let me try…
If you begin with the premise that God is real you set along a certain path of logic and faith, dogma and apologetics, but does it get you to truth, not religious truth, but actual truth?
We don’t believe the sun is real, we know the sun is real.
Can I get you from flimsy belief or unbelief to knowing that God is real?
I can, but the mechanisms of spiritual development are tricky to grasp and even trickier to instruct. On the one hand it’s baffling and hard to swallow, on the other it’s simple once you allow yourself to take the first steps.
I think I got it figured out. I say ‘I think’ not for lack of certainty, but because of the endless micro tweaking. Rarely have I erased conclusions, but I am constantly correcting the finer math equations. What I can tell you with certainty is how to begin and it’s the same for everyone, that is, just begin.
Humans like metaphors, I do anyway, I think that way, makes me a great artist, poet and pastor. In front of all of us is “that door”. I could describe it and get poetic about it, but I won’t, I’m serious about this part, so listen up.
The door is in front of you. Grab the door handle, twist the knob, open the door and walk through it, close the door behind you.
You can go back the way you came or stay, your choice, but…
You can’t be on both sides at the same time.
It’s one side or the other, so take your pick.
I can’t answer ‘the big question’ in a single post, but for those few (very few) who stick around I promise to get you there.
I promise you…
I’m waiting on one side of the door.
