1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Hebrews 1:1-2
These opening lines from Hebrews in the New Testament are a perfect way to begin the journey on ‘The Way’, by starting at the beginning.
God created the world, although we learned through science it wasn’t quite how it was described in the Old Testament. But God does exist and He did create the Cosmos, the Milky Way, the Sun, Earth, life and man.
He chose to reveal Himself to the Hebrews over many centuries that eventually led to the birth of a Jewish boy named Jesus.
Jesus is a historical person by all scholarship. He was in fact a Jew, he preached and literally changed the entire history of mankind.
Believe it or not, like it or not, it’s fact!
Like the OT, Hebrews may not be accurate and is beautifully poetic, but the essence is true; the gist, so to speak.
Jesus has undergone many iterations over 2,000 years thus far, and we’re still revising and tweaking. Scholars devote whole lives and careers to the study of His work. Men and women, like myself, give their devotion and servitude to assisting others in understanding ‘The Way’ which can easily be substituted by the words ‘The Gist of it all’.
Train your mind to accept the poetic language of the OT and NT, not as fact, per se, but as ancient man’s attempt at getting the concepts down for studying and scrutiny.
Isn’t that a marvelous thing?
Are we not truly blessed that this small group of brave thoughtful and brilliant people had powerful faith that was genuine and realized it was worthwhile enough for preservation and passing along?
Those who scoff at it just don’t get ‘The Gist’.
We who do know…
