Although, everyone is welcome!
One of the fascinating experiences of spirituality is ‘the calling’.
Many make claims to God calling them to believe or to serve, but I’m suspect of them, not because I don’t believe their sincerity, but because humans too often have a tendency for exaggeration and attention seeking. What they name ‘the calling’ was really an ‘inkling’ or some version of self-induced curiosity and decision making, or temporary emotional response from a TV show or book they read, not really God’s unstoppable nagging and cajoling.
Genuine callings are infrequent.
Gods open arms for us to connect with Him is not the same thing as being singled out for purposeful action. We all wish to be selected, on the team so to speak, but it doesn’t work that way.
Gods intricate plan doesn’t require any more or less than what is needed, even if everyone is willing to help and do their part.
Why would anyone say no to God? But they do…all the time.
It’s our right to do so with no hard feelings from God, except for His perpetual disappointment that more people don’t say yes when they are called. It’s a huge commitment and not a one time gig. To agree, to commit, to participate, to be effective requires struggle, genuine struggle.
God is present the whole time, but none of this is easy-peasy.
Why so hard when God is in your corner ready to assist, giving you unmatched resources and guidance?
Because the task is not to be sales people on the spiritual selling floor.
The mission is to manifest change in reluctant humans, steadfast in their ways and stubborn in their minds and hearts. Plus this whole business sounds pretty hokey to those not inclined to spiritual openness.
The calling is the definition of uphill climbing with no rest.
Slow down and you roll down.
So no, not everyone is called because not everyone can last at it, let alone go through the process of truly understanding. Anyone can recite the bible, but can they convey ‘the word of God’. Most are called on smaller scales. Singled out for their natural connection to divine things and it’s lovely when that happens.
Join God in whatever capacity you can.
Some called. Some not. But all good.
